The Dynasty Warriors game series, although referenced to factual people, is known for changing the traditional ways of how some of the historical characters were depicted in Romance of the Three Kingdoms or in historical records. For example, Zhang He appears to be more feminine while Wei Yan becomes a bestial tribal warrior, while historical accounts depict both to be relatively normal generals with no outstanding characteristics such as these. Some of them also wield weapons that are anachronistic, such as Ling Tong's nunchaku and Sun Ce's tonfas. A touch of mysticism is also added, as some characters such as Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi and Zuo Ci have the ability to use magic in their attacks. Female characters (except Zhurong and Wang Yi) who did not participate in any battles in the novel or in history are depicted as fearsome female warriors with exceptional fighting skills and weapons.
Probably the third most recognized franchise of Koei, Samurai Warriors (Sengoku Musou in Japan) series, was introduced in 2004. Instead of the Three Kingdoms era, the series uses Japan's Sengoku period. As a result, the game's roster consists of characters from that era, while having gameplay similar to that of Dynasty Warriors. The game would be followed by Samurai Warriors 2 in 2006, Samurai Warriors 3 in 2009, Samurai Warriors 4 in 2014, and Samurai Warriors 5 in 2021.[11] as well as numerous other spin-off titles. As with the original series, Samurai Warriors also has the Xtreme Legends and Empires expansions, with the former beginning on the first game and the latter on the second game.
Over on the PSP, Koei is prepping gamers for this month's launch of Dynasty/Samurai Warriors spin-off Warriors Orochi 2 with a downloadable release of the original Warriors Orochi for $14.99. Both the PS3 and PSP storefronts will also be getting a new PlayStation Original title in Bloody Roar ($4.99), Eighting's 1997 3D fighter featuring brawlers who transform into a variety of were-creatures.
Moving to the potpourri collection of other content, PS3 owners can download demos of WWII dogfighter IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey and the adventure game Mini Ninjas, from IO Interactive (creators of Hitman). However, it's in the add-ons for existing games where things get unusual.
Meanwhile, Capcom's Street Fighter franchise gets cross promotional with Zen Pinball. Would-be wizards can download the Street Fighter II Tribute Table for the pinball sim for $2.49. The table was previously released for developer Zen Studio's Xbox 360 game Pinball FX, making this the first time the same downloadable content has been made available for two games exclusive to different consoles. Speaking of Capcom, the publisher has a collection of 10 remixed music tracks from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 now available to download for free.
In other fighting game downloadable content, Arc System Works' BlazBlue is getting an array of add-ons. Players can now unlock "Unlimited" versions of playable characters Hakumen, Rachel, V-13, and Ragna for $0.99 each, although they can all be earned in the course of normal play as well. Additionally, those bored of the look of the default roster can now purchase additional colors for their costumes. For $4.99, gamers can get four additional colors for each of the game's dozen default fighters, although publisher Aksys Games is also offering the option to download the colors in three separate packs (four characters to a pack), available for $1.99 each.

Musou Orochi Z is an exclusive project from Koei combining the two best tactical games Sangoku Musou and Sengoku Musou with new missions and an original script. Without warning, the Serpent King Orochi began an invasion. Using tremendous power to break space and time, Orochi kidnapped the most powerful and brave warriors of Ancient China and Feudal Japan in order to test their skills in battle with their best warriors. None of the armies could resist the power of Orochi. There were fewer heroes on earth who continued to resist the Serpent King. 96 game characters instead of 79 in the original, all old ones have optional new costumes, new campaigns, new game modes, new items. In general, for all normal publishers it would be just an addon, but Koei serves it as a third of the WO.
